Happy Valentine's Day

This day is either celebrated or hated around the globe,
So regardless it's a great time to bake.

Stained Glass Valentine's Day Cookie Recipe

Okay, the recipe I used for the dough was from here (martha stewart)

Here are the supplies you will need:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour, plus more for work surface
  • 1/4 teaspoon coarse salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • Cookie Cutters, large and small
  •  a bag or two of jolly ranchers
  • Parchment Paper

Follow the directions provided on her website, the dough may be a bit crumbly

Wrap it in plastic and store in the fridge. I left mine in for about an hour.

Once you roll the dough, cut out the shapes, and place them on the parchment paper remember to set the cookie sheet in the fridge again for another 15-20 minutes so the dough can harden a bit.

Then place them in the oven.

*Note: This was my first batch...One jolly rancher WAS NOT enough!

& They come out looking fabulous :)

DIY Ombre Yoga Mat Bag

I recently started taking yoga classes so I thought it would be fun to make my own bag, since the ones that they sell are over-priced and boring.

Supplies Needed:
Fabric
Clip on Flower
Sewing Machine (or you could try it by hand)

Begin by finding a fabric you like, and place your yoga mat on for sizing.

Cut the bottom corner off to create a shape similar to this

Place the right sides together and sew down the side

Place the clip on flower wherever you'd like.

*I got my flower from JoAnn Fabrics for 99 cents
*I got this awesome fabric also on sale at JoAnn Fabrics
*The yellow fabric was leftover from a previous project

Here is my yoga mat
I bought it from this website

DIY Red to Black Ombre Manicure

Okay so I got a full set a few weeks back and they started to look a bit blah so I decided to try out the ombre style nails and worse case scenario just rip them off if it didn't work out. But I actually love how they turned out so I decided to throw up a basic tutorial on how to go at it.

For starters pick the two colors you are going to use. I would suggest not using black the first time unless you are feeling adventurous because it can be really hard to blend with if you aren't used to the techniques.

I'm sure different brands work better but these are what I had lying around.

First I painted over the old french manicure with a base color of red.

Then blot down a little bit of each color and blend them using some type of sponge, easily found at a craft store or section in a department store.
*Note: Blend on magazine paper, it won't dry out as fast

Then just start dabbing it on until you are happy with the results. This was my first attempt at it so when I do it again I will try some different techniques to see if it works better.
*Always finish with a clear/protectant coat

Make a white or yellow batter cupcakes as you would normally, and then divide the batter up into different cups. Add a few drops of food coloring as you desire and mix each cup up separately. From there just take a spoonful at a time of each color into the muffin pan and they turn out like this.
I chose pastel colors because it was Easter time, but they are great for any occasion.

Glitter Bubbly!

Ansari's Mediterranean Grill & Lounge

I work at a bar and the colors we use for almost everything are black and purple. For the 4 year anniversary/NYE celebration we decided to give out purple champagne to celebrate. We purchased purple edible glitter from a local craft store, and sprinkled it on the bottom of the champagne glasses.

Once the bubbly was poured, it appeared to be a shimmering festive drink! Definitely doing it again next year.

Simple & Cute

I bought a bag of the bows/ribbons and just stuck them on the some slippers. They held for about 5 hours, so if you want them to stay on longer use duct tape or a stapler to reinforce.

Also try this hair trick

Supplies Needed:
3/4 cup butter, softened
1 cup brown sugar
1 cup sugar
1 cup peanut butter
2 large eggs
2 tsp vanilla
1 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
2 1/2 cups flour
2 cup hershey chocolate chips
3 bags of Reeses Peanut Butter Bites

Preheat your oven to 350 degrees.

Start off by combining the butter, brown sugar, sugar, peanut butter, eggs and vanilla in a large bowl. Blend on medium for 2 minutes.

Next just add the baking soda, salt and flour. (I add the flour in 1/2 cup portions)

Blend on medium, again for 1-2 minutes.

Fold in the chocolate chips using a large spoon or spatula

Now you are going to ball up the dough into a size just slightly smaller than a golf ball. These cookies are bigger than normal.

(Feel free to make smaller cookies just adjust the cooking time)

Place the balls on an ungreased cookie sheet. On my standard sized cookie sheet I only put 6 on at a time. Continue by using your palm to press down the balls to create a flat top.

Place in oven for 11 minutes.

While waiting, cut up your Reeses Peanut Butter Cups like so...

After the 11 minutes is up, remove the pan from the oven and press the candies in to the top of the hot cookies

Return the pan into the oven for an additional 3 minutes. Let stand for only a minute on the pan and then move to a cooling rack or wax paper!

Makes about 3-4 batches.

They are wonderful with a scoop of vanilla ice cream :)
